Description of the clinic

The Unit of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Genetics and Human Reproduction (UGC) is integrated into the Hospital de la Mujer (Women's Hospital) within the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío complex. The unit comprises four clinical areas: Obstetrics, Fetal Medicine, Human Assisted Reproduction, and Genetics and Genomics. In 2023, the Obstetrics area attended 4,653 deliveries with a global cesarean rate of 26%. The center is one of 34 worldwide performing fetal surgery for myelomeningocele and develops high-complexity fetal therapy procedures. In the Human Assisted Reproduction area, the center serves as a reference center for PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing) for monogenic and structural diseases for Western Andalusia. The unit offers Insemination Program, IVF Program, Egg Donation Program, and Fertility Preservation Program. In the Genetics and Genomics area, genomic approach for rare diseases was implemented in 2017 using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), with a proprietary clinical exome design. The unit is staffed by over 350 professionals across all categories.
