The Reproductive Medicine Unit is part of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, a public university hospital in Madrid. The unit has over 30 years of experience in assisted reproduction, having achieved the first IVF birth at the hospital in 1987. It serves over 700 new patients annually and offers comprehensive fertility services including infertility evaluation and treatment, artificial insemination (with partner or donor sperm), conventional IVF and ICSI, and oocyte vitrification for patients at risk of premature ovarian failure. The unit operates on-site andrology and IVF laboratories with cryopreservation facilities. In 2018, the unit performed 220 artificial insemination cycles, 479 follicle punctures (IVF), and 547 embryo transfers (308 fresh and 239 thawed). The unit provides patient education through nursing workshops and offers psychological support. It is integrated within a multi-specialty hospital setting with collaboration from urology, andrology, genetics, and other specialties.
